After the launch of Insat-2D from Kourou in French Guyana, Indian scientists are now planning to launch IRS-1D, for the first time from Indian soil, using an indigenous launch vehicle in September 1998. National Remote Sensing Agency director D P Rao said here yesterday that IRS-1D would be launched from Sriharikota using PSLV and the satellite would be used to map and monitor devastations and other calamities.
