Your correspondent, Manish Khanduri, has written: The implementation of an ERP process, says Gupta, involves three groups. First, the business consultant who provides the theoretical and strategic inputs. Then the IT implementor-people such as SAP, Baan or Oracle that provide the software (they account for 30-40 per cent of the input), and last, the system integrators, i.e people such as CMC or Tata infotech who provide the hardware and get the system to work.

The statement attributed to me has been distorted. In fact, the statement made by me was: The implementation of an ERP solution involves three set of people. One, the business consultants, typically the Big-6, who provide the theoretical and strategic inputs. Two, the IT implementors, such as Sapient, who implement the IT part of the solution through configuration and/or customisation of ERP packages such as SAP or Baan. Typically, this constitutes 30-40 per cent of the total activity of ERP implementation. Third, the system integrators, such as CMC or Tata Infotech, who take up the task of hardware sizing, configuration, network configuration, installation and implementation of the IT solution as a whole. These are the people who make the system work in its entirely.
