Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee called on President K R Narayanan yesterday evening to brief him on developments in Sri Lanka. He also briefed him on the just-concluded Budget session of Parliament. Prime Minister's meeting with the President is also significant as it came in the wake of Narayanan's five-day visit to the People's Republic of China from May 28 to June 3.

The meeting began at 6 pm and lasted for about an hour.

A PMO spokesman said Prime Minister briefed the President on India's reading of the Lanka situation.

Yesterday morning, Prime Minister had presided a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security that was said to have discussed the Lanka situation.
