The North India Textiles Mills Association has urged the Punjab government to suitably amend the Punjab Agricultural Produce Markets Act, 1961, so that the spinning mills in the state are not required to account for the cotton purchase made by them. In a letter to the financial commissioner and secretary (development), Punjab, the association said some market committees were asking the spinning mills to obtain licence under the Act for carrying on operations and it was causing considerable problems for them.
