The contuiued bear-hammering on the Calcutta Stock Exchange (CSE) seems to be over for the time being.
The CSE index gained seven points yesterday after witnessing losses in the last 10 trading sessions. The index closed at 1840.17 points against its previous close of 1833.46 points.
It was expeeted that the ITC counter would be the center of attraction yesterdayas the company was slated to announce financial results for 1999-2000.
Although its results were better
than expected, the scrip lost some ground. It opened at Rs 637, reached the day's high of Rs 654.90, dipped to Rs599 before closing at Rs 609.50. The trading volume was at Rs 39.79 crore.
In the A group, BSES, HFCL, Sterlite, TTC Bhadrachalam posted gains, white BOC, Pentafour, ITC and Rolta India were in the losers' list. The trading volume was at Rs 893 crore, considerably higher than the previous day's level.
BSES went up to Rs 278 from the opening level of Rs 257, while HFCL closed at Rs 815 from its opening fig ure of Rs 701.
Hindustan Lever Ltd went down to Rs 2215 from Rs 2325, while Larsen & Toubro went up to Rs 173.10 from RS 164.10 .
