Telecom operator Videocon Mobile Services (VMS) has signed an agreement with Mukesh Ambani- owned Mumbai Indians to be its associate sponsor in this year's IPL season.

"We are proud that Videocon is the official partner of 'Mumbai Indians, the most loved and followed cricket team...The association with Mumbai Indians is an endeavour for Videocon Mobile Services to re-establish its iconic positioning in the Indian telecom space," VMS Director and CEO Arvind Bali said in a statement.

Replying to a query about the nature of association, the company said: "Videocon Mobile Services is the associate sponsor for IPL season 6".

"We have planned a 360 degree communication plan... promotions for our customers and channel partners including ongoing events, meets etc during the 8 weeks of Cricket mania. We have planned huge spends on brand and communication for a high decibel engagement the association of being the official partner of Mumbai Indians," Bali said.

VMS, however, did not disclose financial details of this agreement.

Videocon D2H, a sister concern of VMS, is principal sponsor of the team.

The company's business was on hold following cancellation of its licences by Supreme Court in February, 2012. VMS had to win fresh spectrum in November 2012 to continue its services which costed it around Rs 2,221 crore.

VMS, part of the Rs 25,000-crore Videocon Group, has announced that it will provide 4G services in the country along with 2G services for mainly phone calls.

The company has operations in four circles of Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, at present and is working on to roll out services in three other circles of Bihar, UP East and UP West.
