The Punjab Kings opened their account with a bang as they chased down 206 with an over remaining against Royal Challengers Banglore at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. Odean Smith was the hero of the game as he smoked 25 off just 8 balls and took the game away from RCB when 36 was required of the last three overs. 

 

The chase was started well by Punjab as the openers added 71 for the first wicket and made sure that the required run rate was kept under control. Then Bhanuka Rajapaksa's onslaught against Waanindiu Harsanarga in which he scored 43 off just 22 balls, also helped ease the pressure on other Punjab batters. In the end, the total was chased down with an over to spare. 

 

Earlier in the evening, courtesy of Faf du Plessis' 57 ball 88 and 14 ball 32 from Dinesh Karthik helped RCB post 205 on the board in their 20 overs.

Shahrukh seems to have heard me as he hits this down the ground for a great six and now it is only 2 needed off 8 balls. 

 

And two dot balls in a row here as Shahrukh is unable to get the yorker out of the block hole here. But not anymore as this time around, Shahrukh comes down the ground and hit it straight past the flying hands of Hrshal Patel and that would be the victory for Punjab Kings. What a win this is to kick off the season.

This has been a game-changing over from Mohd Siraj as he has taken two wickets and gone for just four runs in his first four balls and now the required run rate has moved to 10 once again and there are two new men at the crease. But two men who hold the reputation for big-hitting, for winning games in tough situations and this is tough situation alright. Strategic time out has been taken here as Punjab need 61 off the last 36 balls. 

 

Remember that Delhi Capitals earlier today evening were in an even grimmer situation and they managed to win it from there and hence Punbjab Kings could still believe.
