PKL 2018: Monu Goyat needs to perform to bring Steelers back in contention

In the Match 18 of VIVO Pro Kabaddi League (PKL 2018) season six, Haryana Steelers will lock horns with Jaipur Pink Panthers at Motilal Nehru School of Sports in RAI, Sonepat. Haryana have a lot of ponder before coming into their 4^th home leg game as they were thrashed by U Mumba and Puneri Paltan in their last 2 games. Haryana need give a spirited performance as in Pro Kabaddi 2018 points table as they are at 4^th position with a score difference of (-)50.  However, Haryana Steelers are unbeaten against Jaipur Pink Panthers so far as they won 2 out of three games played between them while one ended in a tie. In PKL 5, when both the teams meet each other in Sonepat the match ended in a 27-27 tie.

Haryana Steelers had a bad start of the season, winning only 1 out of their 4 matches. Star raider Monu Goyat has struggled which has been one of the major reasons for their poor start to the tournament. Vikas Kandola though has been very consistent for them and has been their most successful raider, scoring 29 raid points from 4 matches at a SR of 45. Despite being at the losing side, he got his first Super 10 in the last match against Puneri Paltan. Wazir Singh’s injury in Haryana’s first game has also depleted the raiding ranks. After scoring 5 points in his first match against Gujarat Fortunegiants, Naveen has scored only 2 points against U Mumba and 1 point against Puneri Paltan in his next 2 matches. Also, their young corners failed to give a consistent performance after a superb start. Despite losing Surender Nada, Haryana’s corner combination was lethal when they played the Gujarat Fortunegiants which helped them get their first win. After 11 tackle points against Gujarat at a SR of 100, the duo of Sunil and Kuldeep has made only 3 successful tackles in their last two matches.

In the first match of Panthers’ first match, Nitin Rawal was the best raider scoring 7 points at a raid strike rate of 50. Meanwhile, Anup Kumar and Deepak Niwas Hooda contributed 5 points combined. The Pink Panthers have a good defensive unit but will need contributions from the star raiders to be successful. In the match against U Mumba, they had the same tackle points as their opponent, but got outscored in raid points. The Pink Panthers have Mohit Chhillar in the right corner and Sandeep Dhull in the left corner.  Right corner, Mohit Chhillar will be up against his former side for the first time. Mohit Chhillar and Sandeep Dhull both had 3 tackle points each in the first game with a combined strike rate of 60 and 50 respectively.
