Hutchison Essar had acquired BPL Mobile, a cellular phone service provider in Tamil Nadu circle, recently and has rebranded it as Hutch.

Hutch's network has now been extended to nearly 210 towns in Tamil Nadu. The company expects to roll out value added services such as GPRS and Hutch Mail.

In a company press statement, Kumar Ramanathan, chief executive officer, Hutchison Essar South Ltd, said that the brand had assumed a national foot print with its presence in 16 circles with a customer base of over 14.5 million. This related to nearly 17 per cent market share in the mobile telephony industry in the country.

If the share of the Mumbai circle is added to it, the percentage would move up to 18 per cent, making Hutch the third largest operator in the country, he added.
