The Orissa information technology (IT) department will float tenders by the first week of December this year for developing a state level Centralised Data Centre (CDC).
“The state level CDC in Orissa, a project being taken up as a part of the National e-governance Plan (NeGP) has already been sanctioned by the IT department of the Centre. This project will be implemented at an investment of Rs 75 crore and the amount is entirely funded by the Centre”, PK Mohapatra, the Orissa IT secretary told Business Standard.
The NeGP has been formulated by the department of information technology of the Government of India and it aims at improving delivery of government services to citizens and businesses.
The objective of the NeGP is to ensure that all government services are accessible to the common man in his locality through integrated service delivery ensuring efficiency, transparency and reliability at an affordable cost to meet the basic needs of the common man.
“The state level CDC in Orissa will have a centralised office at the Orissa Computer Application Centre. This state of the art data centre will maintain data of all the departments of the state government and we expect this e-governance project to be fully implemented by December next year”, Mohapatra added.
The Orissa IT department is also going ahead with another e-governance project called Orissa Secretariat Workflow Automation System (OSWAS) which will enable electronic movement of files of all the departments of the state government. The state IT department had teamed up with Tata Consultancy Services for implementing this project, being taken up at an estimated cost of Rs 25 crore.
The successful implementation of OSWAS will ensure electronic movement of all files, thereby drastically cutting the paper work. The electronic movement of files will help to track the right department with which a particular file is pending.
