The 13,000-square-feet new facility, which is located adjacent to the corporate campus of technology giant Microsoft, will have an initial seating capacity of 125 persons with the option to increase the same quickly over time.
"There is an increasing demand from our clients to provide right-sourcing options from a combination of onsite, offshore, or onshore locations," said Scott Staples, president Americas at Mindtree. "USDC-Redmond allows us to further scale the delivery of solutions in the US, create high value jobs in Washington and help us continue to leverage the best and brightest from the global talent pool."
Mindtree's Chief Executive Officer Krishnakumar Natarajan had in February this year said that the company is looking to set up two new delivery centers in the US and expand the team at the existing center at Gainesville, Florida. Natarajan had said that one of the two planned centers are likely to come up within 2014 and would be on the west coast, most likely in Washington.
"We have completed nearly 60 per cent of the process to set it (the delivery center on the west coast) up. The rest of the procedure is likely to complete in the next three-four months," Natarajan had said in February.
Local delivery centers complement the global delivery centers of Indian IT services companies as being the same timezone helps teams to deliver time-to-market and cost advantages.
Mindtree had opened its first delivery center in the US at Florida in 2012. This center presently services over 15 clients with a specific focus on agile development.
"Mobile and Cloud are playing a transformational role in our client's business roadmap. Between the talent available in Redmond, our academy of excellence and existing pool of experts, we will be able to deliver meaningful solutions onsite," said Kamran Ozair, executive vice president and head of Redmond delivery center at Mindtree. "The presence of Microsoft, one of our largest clients, makes Redmond a strategic location."
