Nokia, world's largest handset brand, will be extending its Life Tools services in 10-12 handsets by this December, a top company official said.
Nokia Life Tool Service was launched across India in June this year and is at present available in Nokia 2320, N-2323 and N-2700 (all low-end models in the price range of Rs 3,000-6,000).
"We will be enabling the service in 12 more devices this December and are also in talks with all service providers to provide the service," Nokia's Global Head of Emerging Market Services Jawahar Kanjilal told PTI here.
At present, Nokia has partnered with cellular service provider Idea for this service primarily in segments like agriculture, education and entertainment and weather forecast, for people in rural areas.
"Our aim is to inform, involve and empower people and bridge the digital divide in the country. With this service we intend to minimise the infrastructural constraint the people face and stay connected with rest of the world," Kanjilal said.
The service is available for Rs 1-2 a day and offers three components: Learn English, with basic, intermediate and advanced levels. The Nokia Life Tools Entertainment service which includes astrology, news, jokes, cricket and ring tones, offered at existing market prices.
All these services are delivered by SMS to ensure that the service works wherever a mobile phone works, without the hassles of additional settings or the need for general packet radio service (GPRS) coverage.
