The Government today said that there was a 13.28% increase in the rice stock to 284.29 lakh tonne in kharif marketing season (KMS) 2007-08 as against the overall procurement of 251.07 lakh tonnes in KMS 2006-2007.
According to an official statement, the procurement of paddy also went up by 12.88% in the KMS 2008-09 since it commenced from October 1, 2008.
"Till November 3, 129.83 lakh tonne of paddy has been procured in KMS 2008-09 as against 115.01 lakh tonnes of paddy procured during corresponding period in KMS 2007-08," an official statement said.
According to the statement, it is estimated that the stock of wheat as on April 1, 2009 will be 81.35 lakh tonnes compared to the buffer norms of 40 lakh tonne.
Similarly it is estimated that the rice stock will be 64.13 lakh tonne as on October 1, 2008, against the buffer norm of 52 lakh tonnes, the statement said.
