Wipro Technologies is planning to invest Rs 1,500 crore to develop 6 to 8 million sq ft capacity across the country in the next two to three years. The expansion plan will be mostly in special economic zones (SEZ). Laxman Badiga, chief information officer, Wipro Technologies told reporters that the company is planning to create capacity to seat 50,000 people in Chennai.
The proposed plan includes adding capacity at the Sholinganallur facility in Mahindra City SEZ. The first phase of its Mahindra City facility will be ready in six months to accommodate around 1,000 employees, he said. At present, about 6,000 people are working at Wipro's facilities across Chennai.
