Nifty spent most of the session grinding lower after failing to hold above the 25,500 support zone in early trade. Intraday price action showed consistent selling on every minor bounce, reinforcing a weak short-term sentiment. The breakdown below 25,200 confirmed continuation weakness, forming a clear sequence of lower highs and lower lows. The index is now hovering near its 200-day EMA around 25,163  a critical medium-term support area. A decisive breach of this zone could open the door for stop-loss-driven selling toward 25,000 and lower. RSI has slipped to 28, entering the oversold territory, but the selling pressure remains orderly rather than panic-driven, suggesting controlled distribution rather than capitulation. Momentum remains muted with no visible bullish reversal patterns so far, as all counter-rallies continue to be sold into.

Stock Market LIVE Updates: US stock futures were suggesting a downbeat start to the session on Wall Street on Tuesday amid an intense rhetoric by US President Donald Trump on Greenland.

 

Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average indicated a decline of 595 points (1.2 per cent) at Tuesday's open. S&P futures were set for a 1.3-per cent (90.25 points) drop, while Nasdaq 100 futures were poised to lose around 1.5 per cent (387 points).

 

Trump announced in a Truth Social post on Saturday that eight NATO members' US imports will face escalating tariffs "until such time as a Deal is reached for the Complete and Total purchase of Greenland."

The tariffs will start at 10 per cent on Feb. 1 and rise to 25 per cent on June 1, Trump said.

European leaders have described the penalties as "unacceptable."

Stock Market LIVE Updates: According to HSBC, the government is expected to meet its FY26 fiscal deficit target of 4.4 per cent of GDP despite a considerable shortfall in tax revenues.

The tax rate-cut led fall in revenues will likely be partly filled by strong RBI and PSU dividend, and partly by lower current expenditure.

HSBC expects that pruning of schemes will help the government lower its expenditure in FY27 , and we forecast a fiscal deficit of 4.2 per cent of GDP.

Reforms are ikely to feature prominently in the FY27 Budget speech, HSBC said.

On the domestic front, it expects the state and centre deregulation drive to continue, manufacturing incentives for small firms, capex diversification to favour capex loans to states, and some rationalisation in subsidy and centrally sponsored schemes.

On the external front, HSBC expects a significant exercise to rationalise customs duties, continued withdrawals of non-tariff barriers, and more openness to FDI across sectors in Budget 2026.
