Cyber city faced a major power outage on Friday evening as the electricity grid collapsed after the main transformer at the 220 KVA substation in Sector 72 blew up, an official said. The sudden blackout, amid sweltering heat, caused widespread discomfort across households and major disruptions at commercial establishments. The Rapid Metro service was disrupted for nearly an hour due to the power outage. "Due to power supply failure from Sec 72 substation of HVPNL in Gurugram, which feeds power to Rapid Metro, Gurugram, and the Gurugram section of the Yellow Line, train services were not available from 7:50 pm to 8:33 pm in Rapid Metro," a DMRC spokesperson said. However, services on the Yellow Line were regulated through standby substation and were running normal during this period. Normal services on Rapid Metro were restarted once power supply was restored by HVPNL through the Sector 72 substation, the official added.
Businessman Robert Vadra on Monday unconditionally withdrew in the Delhi High Court his petition challenging a trial court order that summoned him in a money laundering case linked to a land deal in Haryana's Shikohpur. Maruti Suzuki India Ltd on Monday announced the start of commercial production at the second plant of its Kharkhoda manufacturing facility in Haryana. The second plant has an annual production capacity of 2.5 lakh units, taking the total capacity at Kharkhoda to 5 lakh units, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) said in a statement. With the new capacity coming in, the company's overall annual production capacity across its facilities in Gurugram, Manesar and Kharkhoda in Haryana, and Hansalpur in Gujarat stands at 26.5 lakh units, it added. When fully operational, the Kharkhoda facility will be among parent Suzuki's largest four-wheeler manufacturing locations with capacity to produce 10 lakh vehicles per annum, the company said. The country's largest carmaker had earlier indicated its plan to add 5 lakh units of capacity in FY 2026-27. The company currently produces compact SUV Brezza and mid-SUV Victoris at the facility.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted searches at multiple locations in Chandigarh and Panchkula in connection with a Haryana bank scam case and seized financial records and digital evidence linked to the alleged fraud, officials said on Friday. Certain officials of IDFC First Bank and AU Small Finance Bank, in connivance with public servants of various departments of the Haryana government, allegedly misappropriated government funds through fraudulent means, an official statement said. The agency said the case was handed over to the CBI by the Haryana government for investigation. Searches were conducted at seven locations on May 14, including residential premises, business establishments and showrooms of jewellers, premises of suspected beneficiaries of the misappropriated government funds, and other private entities linked to the investigation, the agency said. The Centre has extended the provisions of five state legislations, three of Punjab and two of Haryana, to the Union Territory of Chandigarh. The move is part of a set of governance and regulatory reforms which are aimed at modernising legal frameworks, enhancing transparency and improving ease of living and ease of doing business. The extensions have been made through notifications under Section 87 of the Punjab Reorganisation Act, 1966, in accordance with the established practice of extending suitable state laws to Chandigarh, which does not have its own legislature, officials said. These measures, taken together, represent a comprehensive effort to address gaps in existing legal frameworks, bring greater clarity and uniformity in regulation, strengthen citizen protection, and support efficient governance in Chandigarh UT. The Haryana government has dismissed an official of the Development and Panchayat Department from service in connection with the Rs 590 crore IDFC First Bank fraud case. "The government has taken strict action in major financial case by dismissing Naresh Bhuwani, Superintendent in the Development & Panchayats Department, from service. The action has been taken under the provisions of Article 311(2)(b) of the Constitution after a detailed investigation into a criminal conspiracy and the emergence of substantial evidence," an official statement quoting a government spokesperson said on Friday. This decision has been taken in line with the government's zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, it said. Former deputy speaker of the Haryana Legislative Assembly and BJP leader Gopichand Gahlot passed away on Saturday at the age of 76 in Sector 28 here. He had been ill for some time, a family member said. Gahlot became deputy speaker in the INLD government after winning the Gurgaon seat in 2000. He was said to be close to the Chautala family. He also contested the Gurgaon seat on an INLD ticket in 2005 and 2014, but lost both times. Gahlot, a longtime MLA in Haryana politics, served as a legislator from the Gurugram constituency and also entered the House as an Independent. He later joined the BJP in 2019. Farmers under the banner of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Tikait) on Saturday staged road blockades at several parts of Haryana, protesting against difficulties in wheat procurement and issues with the online portal system. Raising slogans, the protesters alleged that technical glitches in the online system and problems related to bank accounts were causing distress to farmers by delaying the sale of produce and payments. Police personnel were deployed near the Anaj Mandis to maintain law and order. Power distribution companies in Haryana have approached the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission (HERC) seeking relaxation in rules related to recovery of fuel surcharge, officials said on Saturday. Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) have filed petitions requesting amendments to Regulation 68 of the Multi-Year Tariff (MYT) Regulations, 2024 for financial year 2025-26. As per existing rules, additional costs arising from fuel and power purchase are recovered from consumers on a monthly basis through the Fuel and Power Purchase Adjustment Surcharge (FPPAS). The discoms have proposed to defer the monthly recovery and instead recover the amount in subsequent financial years at a uniform rate of 47 paise per unit across all consumer categories. They have also sought permission to include carrying cost to ensure recovery of dues. The Commission has not taken an immediate decision and has decided to follow a public consultation ..
Haryana Congress' Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC) will prepare a report and convey its decision to the party high command concerning the issue of alleged cross-voting by five party MLAs during last month's Rajya Sabha elections. The committee, under the chairmanship of party leader Dharampal Malik, met at the Haryana Congress office here on Friday evening. The five MLAs are accused for cross-voting in favour of BJP-backed Independent candidate Satish Nandal and have been issued a show-cause notice by the Congress. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday directed officials to ensure that farmers coming to mandis to sell their crops during the Rabi procurement season 2026-27 do not face any inconvenience. Saini was presiding over a meeting of officials from the Food and Civil Supplies Department and other agencies related to crop procurement here. He also reviewed the arrangements made for the Rabi procurement season. Procurement of wheat will begin from April 1, 2026, and a target of 72 lakh metric tonnes has been set by the Government of India for this Rabi procurement season, an official statement said.
