The government plans to introduce a postal logistics infrastructure plan for India Post to upgrade the existing parcel facilities in line with developed nations, Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Thursday. After inaugurating the renovated building of Nehru Place Post Office, along with Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Minister of State for Communications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, Scindia said that world over, e-commerce has grown with digitisation and for further growth, the sector will need to use postal networks. "Soon, with the blessings of the Prime Minister, with our department, with our family, we are going to bring a Postal Logistics Infrastructure Plan so that the logistics infrastructure, the way it is in advanced countries, of the supply-driven mechanism, of the input-output ratio, the same modern system, we will implement in India as well," he said. The Department of Post has clocked revenue of Rs 15,296 crore for financial year 2025-26, a 16 per cent growth year-on-year, Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Monday. Announcing the revenue scorecard after the Postal Department's annual business meet here, Scindia said the year has been "historic" for the department. He said that with sharp focus on deepening the reach of services, acquisition of customers and six sigma service level agreements with customers, the department is aiming for higher growth for FY27. The Department of Posts on Tuesday rolled out three premium services, with 24-hour and 48-hour delivery guarantees for urgent and time-sensitive consignments. The services -- 24 Speed Post, 24 Speed Post Parcel, and 48 Speed Post -- were launched by Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. Initially, these services are being rolled out in six cities - Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad. The department will utilise dedicated processing and priority air transport to adhere to delivery timelines. The Department of Posts has set a target to achieve 30 per cent growth in revenue to Rs 17,546 crore in the current financial year ending March 31, 2026, Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Thursday. The minister, after the third quarterly review of the Department of Posts (DoP) said out of six verticals, five posted growth in revenue, while International Mail remained static due to restrictions imposed by the US government. "This year, 2025-2026, we have a target of Rs 17,546 crore, which means we are targeting a 30 per cent increase in revenues in one fiscal alone from Rs 13,240 crore in FY25," Scindia said. He said that the run rate of 2023-2024 of Rs 12,800 crore rose to Rs 13,240 crore in fiscal year 2024-25, an increase of only 3 per cent. "Therefore, the growth rate compared to 2023-2024 to 2024-25, which is only a minuscule 3 per cent, we intend to increase it by 10 times to 30 per cent in FY26," Scindia said. The government is undertaking a business process reengineering exercise for India Post to make it more digital oriented with improved service delivery, Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Wednesday. Currently, 1.64 lakh post offices are spread across the country and the Modi government has worked to expand the postal network in the last 11 years, Scindia said during Question Hour in Lok Sabha. "We are in the process of bringing a full business process reengineering exercise for India Post by which our delivery will become much more prompt, service oriented and digital oriented for the citizens," Scindia said. As part of the process, the postal department will have best in class automation, which will make India Post the top logistics carrier in the world, the minister said.
