Kishtwar

Kishtwar, one of the 90 Assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, will witness voting in the first phase of the three-phase elections on September 18. Traditionally a stronghold for the National Conference and Congress, the seat shifted to BJP in 2014 when Sunil Sharma defeated two-time NC MLA Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo.

In this election, a triangular contest is expected between the BJP, NC, and PDP. BJP has chosen Shagun Parihar, a terror victim whose father and uncle were killed by Hizbul Mujahidin terrorists in 2018, to run against NC’s Sajjad Kichloo and PDP’s Firdoos Ahmad Tak. In 2014, Kishtwar had 79,174 registered voters, including 40,887 males and 38,287 females. There were no third-gender voters, while 946 postal votes and 212 service votes (146 men, 66 women) were recorded.
