Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Saturday paid their tributes to a junior commissioned officer (JCO) who laid down his life while leading a counter-infiltration operation against terrorists near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu. A solemn wreath-laying ceremony for Subedar Kuldeep Chand was held at military garrison Tanda in Jammu's Akhnoor in the afternoon and later his mortal remains were despatched to his family in Himachal Pradesh for last rites, officials said. They said senior Army, police and civil officers led by General Officer Commanding of 10th Infantry Division Major General Sameer Shrivastava and Senior Superintendent of Police, Jammu, Joginder Singh laid a wreath at the body and saluted the sacrifice of the JCO. Two Army personnel, including a captain, were killed and another was injured when an improvised explosive device (IED), believed to have been planted by terrorists, exploded near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Akhnoor sector near here on Tuesday, officials said. The Army confirmed the fatalities in the blast and said "own troops are dominating the area and search operations are underway". The officials said the troops were on patrolling duty when they were hit by the powerful explosion near a forward post in the Bhattal area at around 3:50 pm. The injured personnel were rushed to a hospital where two of them, including a captain, succumbed to their injuries, they said, adding that the condition of the other injured soldier is "out of danger". Security forces on Friday launched a massive search operation along the Line of Control (LoC) in Gulmarg sector of Jammu and Kashmir, following the terror attack in the area that left four people, including two soldiers, dead, officials said. The combing and search operation has been launched along the LoC and the area near the site of the attack. Security forces have sealed the routes around the site of the attack. Officials said the forces are using human and technical intelligence inputs to aid the search operation which has been launched to trace and neutralise the terrorists behind the attack. The Army is working on a proposal to relocate the villages ahead of the fence along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir as it is "necessary" to safeguard the lives of people, a top Army officer said here on Thursday. "Yes, there is a lot of thought going into this. Director General of BSF Daljit Singh Chawdhary on Saturday visited forward areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district to review the operational preparedness of the force. Chawdhary visited the forward locations along the LoC in the Kupwara district where he was briefed about the security situation and operational preparedness of the unit deployed there, officials said. They said the BSF DG lauded the professionalism and steadfastness of the personnel in executing their duties. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday said India is ready to cross the Line of Control (LoC) to maintain its honour and dignity, and called upon civilians to be ready to support the soldiers in such a situation. The director general of Border Security Force (BSF) S L Thaosen on Saturday visited forward areas and reviewed security situation and challenges along the Line of Control (LoC) in twin border districts of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
