Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Namo Bharat train and Meerut Metro services here on Sunday and address a public meeting, officials said. According to information received from the district administration, the prime minister will arrive at the Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad at 11 am. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will reach the helipad at Mohkampur near Shatabdi Nagar station by a state helicopter at 11.15 am. Modi's helicopter is scheduled to land at the same helipad at 11.30 am, where he will be received by the chief minister. A stretch of the Delhi-Meerut Road between the Meerut Tiraha and the Eastern Peripheral Expressway at Duhai on the capital's border has been handed over to the Public Works Department (PWD) after completion of reconstruction and widening works, the NCRTC said on Saturday. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) had undertaken comprehensive restoration and widening of the over 9-km-long stretch, in view of keeping public convenience and commuter safety, the agency said, adding that nearly 6 km of drains have also been constructed to provide a permanent sewerage solution. The NCRTC said it was entrusted with the upkeep of the road by the PWD in 2018 during the construction of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor, and was responsible for its maintenance throughout the construction period. A case has been registered against five people for allegedly putting up an "I love Muhammad" poster in a town here, police said on Saturday. According to police, the poster was put up on Friday night at the main intersection of Mawana town. On Saturday morning, locals objected to the poster and staged a protest. The Allahabad High Court has observed that a wife living separately from her husband without a valid reason is not entitled to maintenance and set aside a family court order granting maintenance to a married woman. Allowing a revision petition filed by the woman's husband, Vipul Agrawal, Justice Subhas Chandra Sharma set aside the February 17 order of maintenance passed by the additional principal judge of the family court in Meerut. "The trial court has recorded the finding that the wife failed to prove that she is living separately from the husband with sufficient reasons and the husband is neglecting to maintain her, even though the amount of maintenance has been fixed in favour of the wife at Rs 5,000 per month. "As per the provision contained under section 125(4) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), if the wife is living separately from the husband without sufficient reasons, she is not entitled to maintenance," the high court said. The NCRTC on Thursday commenced trial runs of the Namo Bharat train on the final stretch of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor, reaching Modipuram, the last station in this section, according to a statement. During the trial, the train was operated between Shatabdi Nagar and Modipuram, marking the first time the Namo Bharat train traversed the underground section of Meerut, a key step in connecting the city's central areas with Delhi through high-speed rail, it stated. The largest Namo Bharat station in the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor, Sarai Kale Khan, is likely to be completed by the end of April. According to an official statement, with key construction and electrification works nearing completion, trial runs on the stretch between New Ashok Nagar and Sarai Kale Khan are expected to begin by the end of this month.
