Sanjay Saraf, representing the Kashmiri Pandit community, is running for the Anantnag seat on a Lok Jan Shakti Party (LJSP) ticket. With over 35,000 displaced Kashmiri Pandits eligible to vote nationwide, his candidacy is drawing significant attention.
Saraf aims to address the issues of displacement and marginalisation faced by the community by advocating for the "return and rehabilitation" of displaced Pandits, emphasising respect, dignity, and security for his community members. He said that he is committed to bridging gaps between communities, promoting peace, and ensuring that Kashmiri Pandits can return to their homeland safely.
His main opponent is Abdul Rehman Veeri from the PDP, a former minister for rural development. The 2024 elections mark a significant moment for Jammu and Kashmir, being the first Assembly elections since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.
Saraf's ability to connect with both Kashmiri Pandits and other local constituents could make him a key player in shaping the future of the region.
