Channapora is a politically significant constituency, making Bukhari's candidacy crucial. The constituency's diverse electorate includes various demographics that have historically influenced election outcomes. He is fielded against PDP's Mohammed Iqbal Trumboo, National Conference's Mushtaq Guroo and Hilal Ahmad Wani of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
