Toyota moves further into partnership for 2026 with Haas Formula 1 team

The Haas Formula 1 team will get a new name next season, further showcasing its relationship with Japanese automaker Toyota. In a statement Thursday, the team said its name in 2026 will be TGR Haas F1 Team. The TGR stands for Toyota Gazoo Racing, which is the racing division of the Toyota Motor Corporation. Taking over the title sponsorship means Toyota is now more involved in F1 than at any time since it pulled its team out after the 2009 season. Haas and Toyota entered into the first stages of this technical partnership a year ago and the Haas car has been carrying Toyota's branding since. The partnership involves design and technical services but does not include a Toyota engine. Haas will run next year with Ferrari power, but it does move the company ever deeper into Formula 1. Toyota ran a team in F1 until the end of the 2009 season. It failed to win a race despite spending heavily. This move does not appear to mark a return to that level of involvement. It's naturally a ..

Rich in cash, Japan's Toyota builds city to test futuristic mobility

Woven City near Mount Fuji is where Japanese automaker Toyota plans to test everyday living with robotics, artificial intelligence and autonomous zero-emissions transportation. Daisuke Toyoda, an executive in charge of the project from the automaker's founding family, stressed it's not a smart city. We're making a test course for mobility so that's a little bit different. We're not a real estate developer, he said Saturday during a tour of the facility, where the first phase of construction was completed. The Associated Press was the first foreign media to get a preview of the USD 10 billion Woven City. The first phase spans 47,000 square metres, roughly the size of about five baseball fields. When completed, it will be 2,94,000 square metres. Built on the grounds of a shuttered Toyota Motor Corp auto plant, it's meant to be a place where researchers and startups come together to share ideas, according to Toyoda. Ambitious plans for futuristic cities have sputtered or are unfinis

Toyota Kirloskar Motor on Sunday reported a 35 per cent growth year-on-year in total wholesales at 30,879 units in August. The automaker had reported a dispatch of 22,910 units in both domestic and exports in the same month last year. SUVs and MPVs continue to significantly contribute to the company's sales numbers, reflecting a growing preference for these segment vehicles, he added. Safety issue: Toyota to oversee model certification at subsidiary Daihatsu

Japanese automaker Toyota will oversee model certification at its subsidiary Daihatsu to regain trust among dealers, customers and workers after a safety testing scandal, Daihatsu's new president said Monday. Toyota Motor Corp. will take a leadership role in various areas, including product development and procurement, said Masahiro Inoue, who took the helm of Daihatsu in March. I have been spending each and every day, vowing to revive Daihatsu, said Inoue, who previously oversaw Toyota's business in South America. His predecessor at Daihatsu resigned after the allegations of widespread cheating on safety testing surfaced last year. A third-party review found violations, such as testing just one side of a car instead of both, had persisted for decades. Production at Daihatsu Motor Co was halted by a government order until proper tests can be done and a system set up to prevent a recurrence. Only some production has since resumed. Daihatsu is known for smaller kei" cars and off-road

Toyota suspends dispatch of 3 models in India due to some 'irregularities'

Toyota Kirloskar Motor is temporarily suspending the dispatch of its three models -- Innova Crysta, Fortuner and Hilux -- in the country after "irregularities" were found in the certification tests for the diesel powertrain. Toyota Industries Corporation (TICO), a company affiliated with Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), on January 29, 2024, announced that irregularities in horsepower output certification tests were found on three diesel engine models. In case of India, such engines are used in Innova Crysta, Fortuner and Hilux. "The irregularities concern the smoothing of power and torque curves but did not lead to any over-stating or over-claims on horsepower, torque or other powertrain related values," a Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) spokesperson said in a statement when contacted over the issue. The issue does not have any impact on the emissions or safety of the affected vehicles, the company stated. "Toyota is working with relevant authorities to re-confirm the data used for th
