Traffic movement in parts of central and north Delhi is likely to be affected on February 1 in view of a Shobha Yatra on the occasion of the 649th Jayanti of Shri Guru Ravidas Ji, Delhi Traffic Police said in an advisory. The procession will be carried out by Shri Guru Ravi Dass Janmotsav Committee (Regd.) and will start from Red Fort ground at 2.30 pm and is expected to conclude around 8 pm at Guru Ravidas Mandir, P&T Colony, Guru Ravidas Marg, officials said. According to the advisory, the yatra will pass through Chandni Chowk, Fatehpuri, Khari Baoli, Sadar Bazar, Bara Tooti Chowk, Pahari Dheeraj, Bara Hindu Rao and DBG Road before reaching the concluding point. A large gathering is expected to participate, and both vehicular traffic and pedestrian movement are likely to remain heavy along the route. Traffic restrictions will be in force in parts of the city on Tuesday in view of the full dress rehearsal of the Beating Retreat ceremony at Vijay Chowk, the Delhi Traffic Police said. The curbs will be enforced from 4 pm to 6 pm, the traffic police said in an advisory. Vijay Chowk and Raisina Road from Krishi Bhawan roundabout towards Vijay Chowk will remain closed or restricted for general traffic, it said. Traffic beyond Dara Shikoh Road roundabout, Krishna Menon Marg roundabout and Sunehri Masjid roundabout towards Vijay Chowk will also remain restricted. Kartavya Path between Vijay Chowk and Rafi Marg up to Kartavya Path Crossing will be affected, the advisory said. Commuters have been advised to take alternative routes including Ring Road, Ridge Road, Aurobindo Marg, Safdarjung Road via Kamal Ataturk Marg, Rani Jhansi Road and Minto Road. Traffic movement will be restricted at several key crossings in Delhi on January 17, 19, 20 and 21 due to rehearsals for the Republic Day parade along Kartavya Path, police said on Friday. According to an advisory, the rehearsals will be held from Vijay Chowk to India Gate, with the parade route extending up to the C-Hexagon. To ensure the uninterrupted movement of the parade, restrictions will be in place from 10.15 am to 12.30 pm on all four days. During this period, traffic crossings at Kartavya Path at Rafi Marg, Janpath, Man Singh Road and the C-Hexagon will remain closed. Kartavya Path from Vijay Chowk to India Gate will also remain closed for general traffic, leading to diversions and likely congestion on adjoining stretches. The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) in Maharashtra's Thane district has awarded a compensation of Rs 27.9 lakh to the family of a bus driver killed in a collision in 2011. MACT member Rupali V Mohite has directed the owner of the truck involved in the accident and Reliance General Insurance Co. Ltd. to jointly pay the compensation, along with 9 per cent interest. A copy of the order delivered on November 18 was made available on Thursday. The victim, Shankar Jagannath Sable (28), was driving a state transport bus at Pen in the neighbouring Raigad district on July 17, 2011, when a truck collided with the vehicle. Sable succumbed to his injuries on August 10, 2011. The tribunal found that the accident had occurred due to the sole negligence of the truck driver. It also dismissed the insurer's claim of policy breach (for lack of a valid driving licence) due to insufficient evidence, noting that the insurer did not prove that a notice was served on the owner. The Centre has asked states to take strict action on manufacturers and retailers selling sub-standard helmets to ensure the safety of two-wheeler riders. "The Department of Consumer Affairs and the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) appeal to consumers across the country to use only BIS-certified helmets," an official statement said on Saturday. The department also called for strict enforcement against the manufacture or sale of helmets without BIS certification, it added. "With over 21 crore two-wheelers on Indian roads, rider safety is paramount," the department said, adding that wearing a helmet is mandatory under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. It pointed out that the sale of sub-standard helmets compromises safety. A Quality Control Order has been in force since 2021, mandating ISI-marked helmets certified under BIS standards for all two-wheeler riders. Delhi Traffic Police on Sunday issued multiple traffic advisories in view of the IPL match at Arun Jaitley Stadium and disruptions caused by waterlogging due to heavy rains in parts of the city. According to the advisory, the traffic movement is expected to be affected around Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium from 5:30 pm to midnight on May 25 due to the IPL match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders. The affected stretches include Bahadurshah Zafar Marg, JLN Marg and Asaf Ali Road. Buses and heavy vehicles will not be allowed from Daryaganj to Bahadurshah Zafar Marg and from Guru Nanak Chowk to Asaf Ali Road. The government on Friday said new regulations requiring mandatory verification and stamping of traffic radar equipment will be implemented from July 1 to improve road safety and enforcement accuracy across the country. The Consumer Affairs Ministry has notified the rules following extensive consultations with stakeholders, including the Indian Institute of Legal Metrology, Regional Reference Laboratories, manufacturers, and vehicle certification organisations. "These rules will come into force from July 1, 2025, providing sufficient time for industries and enforcement agencies to comply with the provisions," the ministry said in a statement. The new rules, which fall under the Legal Metrology (General) Rules, 2011, will apply to "microwave Doppler radar equipment" widely utilised for measuring vehicle speeds on roads. Traffic violations surged by more than 100 per cent during Holi celebrations this year, an official said on Saturday. A total of 7,230 challans were issued on Holi this year, marking a sharp increase from 3,589 violations recorded in 2024, he said. According to a police statement, the number of people caught for drunken driving surged to 1,213 in 2025 compared to 824 in 2024. Similarly, helmet-related violations increased by 56 per cent to 2,376 this year from 1,524 challans in 2024. The statement added that other offenses, including triple-riding, tinted glass violations and driving without seat belts also saw an increase. A total of 573 challans were issued for triple-riding and 97 for tinted glass violations this year. According to the statement, about 1,241 violators were booked for other traffic offenses last year on Holi, with it rising by 139 per cent in 2025 with a total of 2,971 violators booked.
