Bhaba Atomic Research Centre (BARC) would set up a centre at the National Institute of Technology Silchar campus to promote research and work among students and scholars.
"BARC will set up its unit here in order to enable scholars, teachers and students to undertake more and better research and exploratory works in the field of science and technology," NIT Silchar Director N V Deshpande said.
He said senior nuclear scientist Anil Kakodkar would be the chief guest at NIT Silchar's convocation on June 17. Kakodkar is a former director of BARC and ex-chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission.
NIT Silchar is one of the premier institutes of higher education in lower Assam's Barak Valley.
