In an ongoing movement of doctors between the healthcare rivals, Samir Parikh, ex-head of mental health and behavioural sciences in Max Healthcare is joining Fortis along with 18 other doctors.

Parikh said he would join Fortis Healthcare from tomorrow along with a team of 30 experts out of which 18 are from Max Healthcare.

He was the chief of department of mental health and behavioural sciences from 2001 to April 2012.

Commenting on the development Parikh told PTI: "I am moving to Fortis as it has a very strong presence across the country and I wanted to reach out to more people".

Max Healthcare said: "It is true that Dr Parikh and some members of his team have chosen to move. We do not expect any significant impact from this".

It further said movement of doctors is a common practice in the industry and a leading neurosciences team in the country, led by Dr AK Singh, and comprising of senior neurosurgeons, neurologists and anaesthetists had recently joined Max Healthcare from Fortis Hospital.

In the new capacity, Parikh would lead a comprehensive team across the network hospitals of Fortis Healthcare in Delhi and NCR for all its mental health & behavioural sciences initiatives.

" The need of the hour is to develop a mental health programme in India that would focus on community awareness to enable increased acceptability of mental health across the country," Parikh said.
