An open letter from Aarushi Talwar's grandfather

In a Facebook post, Group Captain BG Chitnis questions 'injustice' done to parents

“I had an angel — Aarushi — as my granddaughter who was lovingly brought up at our — her grandparents’ house — since she was born in May 1994. I had seen her blossom into a doe-eyed, beautiful, radiant and sparkling young girl who brought into our lives boundless happiness and joy...,” writes Group Captain BG Chitnis (Retd) VSM, grandfather of Aarushi Talwar, on Facebook page ‘Free The Talwars’.

Even seven years after her death, the answer to who killed Arushi Talwar remains unclear. In 2013, the trial ended by convicting the parents, Nupur and Rajesh Talwar. The investigation, carried out thrice — once by local police and once each by two teams of CBI — failed to collect substantial evidence on the murder, even though the first and the third investigation reports said the parents could have been the murderers.

 

 

“At 83, I do not think that I would be alive to see them (Aarushi’s parents) out of jail, but I want to die knowing that people will continue to fight against this huge injustice. I feel completely let down by the institutions, by establishments, be they police, media, CBI or judiciary.” he continues about the Talwars’ conviction.

After the book Aarushi by Avirook Sen and later the movie Talvar based on Sen’s book were released earlier, the Aarushi Talwar murder case has again become a subject of discussion among members of the public. Chitnis has broken his silence after years to seek justice in the case. “UP Police had repeatedly warned us not to talk to (media) as it would adversely impact the case, but their motive was otherwise. They wanted to keep us away from the media to hide their incompetence,” says an angry grandfather in his open letter on Facebook.

“I fought two wars for this country, I served the country with honesty, integrity and utmost dedication, and at this old age, this is what I get in return from every respected institution of this country?...” the war veteran wrote in the letter.

He concluded by saying: “Sometimes I wonder if this is the country I dreamt about, and fought for...”
