'Crops on 1.2 mn Ha damaged in rain, hailstorm'

Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan today said crops in an area spread over 12 lakh hectares suffered damages due to the recent untimely rain and hailstorm in the state. The state Cabinet, which is meeting tomorrow in Mumbai, will take stock of the situation. Chavan today visited the most affected area at Mohgaon Bhatade in Narkhed taluka of Nagpur district.

He was accompanied by state rehabilitation minister Patangrao Kadam, Food and Civil Supplies minister Anil Deshmukh, Pradesh Congress Committee president Manikrao Thakre and minister of state for finance Rajendra Mulak, Oranges and wheat crops suffered damages in the area.

Six persons died due to hailstorm related incidents in Nagpur division and as many as 47 livestock also perished, an official release said here.
 

About 10,261 houses were damaged due to the calamity in the Nagpur division, the release added.
