Curtains came down on the three-day unique literary festival ‘Dharwad Sahitya Sambhrama’ on Sunday on a successful note with the audience craving for more such events to be held in more places other than Bengaluru.
The event, organised at Karnatak University in Dharwad, provided an opportunity for the lovers of literature of all age groups to see and interact with leading writers of Kannada over three days. The third edition of the literary event evoked a positive response which saw participation of over 200 literary luminaries who have worked towards enriching the Kannada literature.
As many as 18 sessions were held on the three days in addition to the inaugural and valedictory sessions. The book exhibition, organised as part of this literary fest too received a good response, particularly from the younger generation.
Former Union minister and MP Veerappa Moily who was the chief guest at the valedictory ceremony, hailed the event and said if any new venture in the field of literature or art has to emerge, it has to be from Dharwad.
He called on the new breed of writers to focus on creating a new history, instead of basking in their past glory.
Modern Kannada has the power and taste to tickle the buds of the youth and the writers should make use of the programme to enlighten the youth on the need of literature in their day-to-day life, he noted.
He said concerns have been expressed about youth shying away from literary activities and advised litterateurs to rope in the younger generation to read books and involve them in literary activities. Speaking on the occasion, noted critic Girddi Govindraj said, holding Sahitya Sambrahma was a new experiment made by like-minded writers in Dharwad and will continue to remain an experiment.
The event has seen large participation across the country and next year will come out with more experiments.
Poet Channaveer Kanavi, Jnanpith awardee Girish Karnad, M M Kalburgi, M Ramchandra and others were also present.
