Unseasonal snow and rain have been lashing Himachal Pradesh since Sunday, making it the day the wettest one in the state in March.
"Monday was the wettest day in Himachal Pradesh. The day recorded 57.5 mm of precipitation, against the normal 2.8 mm, which is 1,950 per cent higher," Manmohan Singh, director, Indian Meteorological Department, here said. "Most weather stations in the state have received record snowfall and rainfall in a day in March," Singh said.
"Two tribal towns - Kalpa and Keylong - received 65 cm and 61 cm of snowfall respectively since Sunday," he said. "In the lower hills, Una town recorded 81 mm of rainfall, highest in a day since 1911," he added. The weather office has forecasted more snow and rain in the next 24 hours.
