The state police have recovered Rs 41 lakh in cash from a motorcyclist in Bellary for violating the model code of conduct. Bellary district administration and police together seized Rs 33.49 lakh in Kaul Bazaar area of Bellary city, while another Rs 8 lakh was seized on the outskirts of Bellary, the police sources said.
The cash, purportedly belonging to a local industrialist, was being carried on the motorcycle when it was intercepted and seized, the sources said adding the man who was transporting the cash has been taken into custody, Anil Kumar Jha, chief electoral officer, Karnataka told reporters, here.
He said the district administration and electoral officers have been instructed to keep strict vigil across the district.

Jha said the election commission has received 68,000 applications for inclusion in the voters' list on a single day yetsterday. With this, the total number of applications has touched 753,000 in the state, while the commission has accepted 463,000 applications for inclusion in the voters' list.
For May 5 assembly elections, 300,000 personnel will be deployed for election duty and postal ballot arrangements have been for these personnel to cast their vote. Along with them, the postal ballot facility has been provided to about 37,000 defence personnel from the state, he said.
