As many as six banks and three automatic fare collection (AFC) service providers participated in the pre- bid conference for Kochi Unified Metro Transport Authority (UMTA) smart card project. This would help Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) in achieving its vision to implement a ticketing system which comprises the AFC solution and the contactless Smart Card system.
This is the next step KMRL has taken to introduce a unified and inter-operable multi-modal transport ticketing system for Greater Kochi area, after signing an MoU with the National Payment Corporation of India.
Canara Bank, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, Federal Bank, South Indian Bank and IDBI participated along with AFC service providers like Thales, E -Kent and Indra, a KMRL press release said.
The project would provide services of contactless smart card based ticketing system to city buses, metro feeder buses, boats and ferry services, city taxies etc.
