Security beefed up at Indian airports

BS Reporters
All airports in India were put on high alert after the terror attack by the Taliban in Karachi. Officials also decided to undertake a security audit at all airports.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday held a meeting with the chiefs of intelligence and security establishments to review the arrangements.

The number of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) quick reaction teams has been increased.

A senior civil aviation ministry official said: "Surveillance at airports is being strengthened with the deployment of quick response teams. Detailed preventive measures are being prepared and will be communicated to all airports. Commissioner of Bureau of Civil Aviation Security has held discussion with Central Industrial Security Force officials."

Steps to tighten access control at airports and to strengthen perimeter security have also been taken. Anti-hijacking units have been instructed to carry out mock exercises. Security at the 59 major airports is presently being provided by CISF personnel.
