On Saturday morning, New Delhi was served a reminder about how close strategic partnership with Washington went hand in hand with intense competition on trade and commerce.

Late on Friday evening (Washington time) President Donald Trump terminated India’s preferential designation as “a beneficiary developing country for purposes of the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP)”, which had provided Indian exports with duty exemptions since November 24, 1975.
