Cardamom futures prices fell sharply by 3.80 per cent to Rs 1,096 per kg today, after traders offloaded their positions, triggered by sluggish demand in the spot market.

Adequate stocks position following increased arrivals from producing regions, also put pressure on the cardamom prices in futures trade.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for far-month May contract dipped by Rs 43.80, or 3.80 per cent, to Rs 1,096 per kg, with business turnover of just two lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in March tumbled by Rs 33, or 3 per cent, to Rs 1,067.70 per kg, with a trade volume of just one lot.

Market analysts said sluggish demand in spot market, amid increased arrivals from southern producing regions mainly pulled down cardamom futures prices.
