Press Trust of India New Delhi

Buoyed by a firm global trend, crude oil prices moved up Rs 10 to Rs 5,428 per barrel in futures trade today as speculators created fresh positions.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, April crude rose by Rs 10, or 0.18%, to Rs 5,428 per barrel in business turnover of 3,190 lots.

The May contract was up by the same margin to Rs 5,476 per barrel in 216 lots.

Market analysts attributed the rise in crude oil futures to a firming global trend after data showing an improvement in US employment numbers as concerns over geopolitical tensions in the Middle East lingered.

Meanwhile, crude oil for delivery in April advanced 33 cents to $105.68 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
