Rice basmati prices improve on firm demand

Rice basmati prices rose by Rs 100 per quintal in the wholesale grains market today on pick up in demand, driven by festive and marriage season amid restricted supplies.

Elsewhere, other grains prices moved in a narrow range in thin trading and settled around previous levels.  

Traders said pick up in demand following ongoing festive and marriage season, mainly pushed up wholesale rice basmati prices.

In the rice section, basmati common and Pusa-1121 variety rose by Rs 100 each to Rs 5,400-5,500 and Rs 4,400-5,000, while (Lal Quila) traded higher by the same margin to Rs 9,400 per quintal.

Wheat MP (deshi) 1,650-1,750, wheat dara (for mills) 1,260-1,265 chakki atta (delivery) 1,265-1,270, atta Rajdhani (10 kg) 175, Shakti bhog (10 kg) 175, Roller flour mill 675-695 (50 kg)

Maida 765-795 (50 kilos) and Sooji 885-905 (50 kg) Basmati rice (Lal Quila) 9,400, Shri Lal Mahal 9,300, Super basmati rice 9,000, Basmati common  5,400-5,500, rice Pusa-(1121) 4,400-5,000

Permal raw 1,955-2,005, Permal wand 2,030-2,180, Sela 2,255-2,305 and Rice IR-8 1,785-1,810, Bajra 800-810, Jowar yellow 1,050-1,150, white 2,050-2,100, Maize 1,070-1,080, Barley (UP) 1,100-1,120 and Rajasthan 1,080- 1,090.
