The Sensex has steadied around current levels and is now down 51 points at 9,952. The index earlier from a low of 9,914 rallied to a high of 10,127 - up 213 points from the day's low.
Tata Steel has soared nearly 6% to Rs 217, and Ranbaxy has surged over 5% to Rs 166.
Hindalco and Jaiprkash Associates have rallied over 3% each to Rs 54 and Rs 89, respectively.
Tata Motors has gained 2.5% at Rs 177, and Larsen & Toubro has added 2% to Rs 675.
ACC has moved up nearly 2% to Rs 570. DLF and SBI are up around 1.5% each at Rs 179 and Rs 1,110, respectively.

Maruti, HDFC and ITC have dropped around 2% each to Rs 755, Rs 1,622 and Rs 182, respectively.
Wipro and BHEL are down around 1.5% each at Rs 251 and Rs 1,551, respectively.
The market breadth is positive - out of 2,284 stocks traded so far, 1,247 have advanced, 943 have declined and the rest are unchanged.
