Women's rights activists on Saturday said the police officer who allegedly raped a 23-year-old woman inside a police station should be suspended immediately and made to resign if found guilty.

"It is really shocking , the officer should be suspended immediately and once he will be proved guilty, his job should be taken away. These people don't deserve to stay in the police force. A person who commits such acts is a shame for the entire police force and raises questions about the entire system," former NCW member, Shamina Shafiq told ANI.

Activist Sudha Ramalingam said this incident ought to be declared a custodial rape and considered more heinous than the ordinary sexual assault or a rape which is committed on the other person.

Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi on Saturday said that a chargesheet has been filed in the alleged rapecase of a 23-year-old woman by an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) in the Rani Bagh area of the national capital.
