Digvijay accuses BJP of instigating communal violence for political gain

Congress leader Digvijay Singh today said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is instigating communal violence between the Dalits and the Muslims as a strategy to meet their political ends.

"In the discussion in the Rajya Sabha, practically all the non-BJP Member of Parliaments mentioned the escalation in communal violence in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra and some incidents in Haryana. The fact is that as a strategy, the BJP is instigating communal violence between the Dalits and the Muslims," said Singh.

"According to them, if a Muslim boy has an affair with a Hindu girl it is not correct but if a Muslim girl has an affair with a Hindu boy it becomes a matter of pride. These double standards practiced by the BJP and the RSS strikes the very core of liberal moderate communal harmony in this country. It is very unfortunate that they are doing this to meet their own political ends," he added.

Earlier today, Congress President Sonia Gandhi had said that the number of incidents of communal violence across the country has steadily increased since the formation of the BJP Government at the Centre.
