Defending Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic and Spanish ace David Ferrer have each overcome their rivals in their respective fourth round clashes on Sunday to reach the quarterfinals at Melbourne Park.

The Serbian beat 15th-seeded Italian Fabio Fognini 6-3, 6-0, 6-2 at the Rod Laver Arena to reach the last eight and keep alive his bid for a fourth straight and fifth in all Australian Open title.

Meanwhile, third seed Ferrer wore down German Florian Mayer 6-7 (5/7), 7-5, 6-2, 6-1 under three hours on Hisense Arena in four sets to reach the quarter-finals.

Djokovic will now play Stanislas Wawrinka or Tommy Robredo in the last eight while Ferrer will face either Czech seventh seed Tomas Berdych or 19th-seeded South African Kevin Anderson in the quarters.
