In an attempt to aid disadvantaged children in Africa and Switzerland, 17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer and compatriot Stanislas Wawrinka has raised over a million dollars in a blockbuster fund-raising tennis exhibition held in Zurich.

The Davis Cup champions raised 1.3 million dollars for the Roger Federer Foundation, which aids disadvantaged children in Africa and Switzerland. Federer, who won the match 7-6(7/4), 6-4 against Wawrinka, said that the evening was a great experience for him as both were given a wonderful reception in the stadium, adding that it was more special as they were able to raise a large amount for the foundation, Sport24 reported.

The foundation, since its establishment, has raised around 17 million dollars for education programmes, and helped 285, 000 children in six countries in southern Africa and in Switzerland, the report added.
