Prime Minister on Tuesday emphasized the need for special training programmes for revamping urban governance, terming them 'crucial'.

Chairing a meeting on urban development issues, the Prime Minister said that revamping urban governance should be at the core of the vision of the Ministry of Urban Development, adding that in order to realize this mission, the need to institutionalize special training programmes will be crucial. He stated that only then will urban administrators to be able to systematically improve the quality of urban governance in India.

The Prime Minister also called for complete synergy between the Digital India Mission and the urban renewal mission and called for the inclusion of objectives such as mobile governance, e-governance, solid waste management and waste water management.

Prime Minister Modi also outlined the details of his vision for solid waste management and waste water management in 500 towns across India. He said this would spur growth of organic farming, especially vegetables, in the area surrounding these towns, as organic fertilizer would be readily available.

Calling for the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to be linked to urban development, Prime Minister Modi also said that such a connection would ensure a demand from the grassroots for total sanitation in cities.
