Ten labourers died and two were rescued alive late last night when an effluent treatment plant at the Sipcot Industrial Estate in Ranipet collapsed due to over storage.
The walls of the tank and the chemical effluents engulfed labourers sleeping at a nearby factory.
Fire tenders and rescue teams were rushed to the spot. The people rescued are being treated in hospital.
Sipcot has so far developed 20 industrial complexes in 12 districts and six sector Specific Special Economic Zones (SEZs) across Tamil Nadu.
