Australian equity market finished session at the its highest level in more than a month on Wednesday, 16 August 2017, on the back of gains in financials, meanwhile upbeat earnings from oil companies and a rise in crude prices buoyed the energy sector. At the close, the S & P/ASX200 index finished 0.5%, or 27.6 points higher at 5785.1, while the broader All Ordinaries index also rose 0.5%, or 26.8 points, to 5830.8. Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 597 to 513 and 380 ended unchanged. The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 5.32% to 13.464.
