L&T rose 1.51% to Rs 977 at 13:05 IST on BSE after the company said its construction division has secured new orders worth Rs 2309 crore across various business segments in October and November 2013.
The new orders were announced during trading hours today, 7 November 2013.
Meanwhile, the S&P BSE Sensex was up 201.87 points or 0.97% at 21,096.81.
On BSE, 1.46 lakh shares were traded in the counter as against average daily volume of 3.65 lakh shares in the past one quarter.
The stock hit a high of Rs 984.40 and a low of Rs 956 so far during the day. The stock had hit a 52-week high of Rs 1,132.67 on 7 December 2012. The stock had hit a 52-week low of Rs 678.10 on 28 August 2013.
The stock had outperformed the market over the past one month till 6 November 2013, surging 17.37% as compared to the Sensex's 4.92% rise. The scrip had also outperformed the market in the past one quarter, jumping 21.02% as compared to the Sensex's 11.54% rise.
The large-cap engineering and construction giant has equity capital of Rs 185.21 crore. Face value per share is Rs 2.
L&T's Transportation Infrastructure business has secured a major order worth Rs 694 crore from Kannur International Airport for construction of a greenfield airport's air side works near Kannur city in Kerala.
In Power Transmission & Distribution business, new orders valued Rs 738 crore have been received.
The Buildings & Factories business has secured an order worth Rs 504 crore. L&T's Heavy Civil Infrastructure business has received new orders worth Rs 373 crore.
Additional orders have also been received from various ongoing projects, L&T said.
L&T's net profit declined 14.1% to Rs 977.51 crore on 10% growth in net sales to Rs 14509.51 crore in Q2 September 2013 over Q2 September 2012.
