John Van den Brom has signed a contract until mid-2016 as head coach of AZ Alkmaar, where he will be assisted by former head coach Marco van Basten.
AZ and the 47-year-old Van den Brom reached a verbal agreement last Friday, but the contractual details were finalized Monday. Van den Brom will lead his first training in Alkmaar Tuesday, reports Xinhua.
In his playing career, Van den Brom was active for Vitesse, Ajax, De Graafschap and Istanbulspor (Turkey).
He started his coaching career in 2006 at AGOVV Apeldoorn, followed by stints at ADO Den Haag, Vitesse and Anderlecht (Belgium).
Marco van Basten stepped down as head coach of AZ Sep 16 but has remained at the club as an assistant.

He was out of action since the end of August because of heart palpitations and was not willing to take the responsibility and stress of a head coach anymore due to his health issues.
AZ had originally planned to make assistant Alex Pastoor the new head coach, but he was fired after a so-called "integrity conflict".
He was suspected of having a role in leaking information on Van Basten to the media.
