Cabinet approves MoU with Kyrgyzstan on agriculture cooperation

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday accorded its approval to the signing of an agreement between India and Kyrgyzstan on cooperation in the field of agriculture and food related industry.

According to a cabinet communique, the proposed agreement covers various activities in the field of agriculture and allied sectors such as exchange of information and experience in the field of research, animal breeding, Avian Influenza and Food & Mouth Disease (FMD), veterinary medicine, production of seeds based on modern technology, introduction of different types of irrigation, information technology on efficient use of food processing and packaging technology.

 

It also includes "cooperation in the field of protection of plant variety rights; agricultural research & education; food safety and standards; aquaculture and fisheries".

The Agreement provides for constitution of a Joint Working Group comprising of representatives from both countries to prepare plans of cooperation, provide solutions to the problems arising during the implementation of this agreement and implementation of tasks determined by the Parties, as per the release.

The agreement will be in the force on the date of signing and it will remain into force for five years, and it will be extended for five years automatically unless either party intends to terminate it.
