Myanmar's first waste-powered plant will begin operation in Yangon and produce electricity by March 2017, official media reported on Monday.
The power plant is estimated to cost $16.2 million and will convert 60 tonnes of rubbish every day to generate 1,000 megawatts of electricity, Xinhua quoted the Global New Light of Myanmar.
Yangon produces 170 tonnes of rubbish every day so the plant will reduce emission of methane and carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
