A benchmark index of the Indian equities markets, the 30-scrip BSE Sensitive Index (Sensex), provisionally closed Tuesday's trade 109 points or 0.40 percent down.
The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) also provisionally closed 27.65 points or 0.33 percent in the red at 8,232.90 points.
The Sensex of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 27,291.06 points, provisionally closed at 27,253.44 points (at 3.43 p.m.) -- down 108.52 points or 0.40 percent from the previous day's close at 27,361.96 points.
The Sensex touched a high of 27,296.30 points and a low of 27,209.52 points in the intra-day trade.
